Creating art is an integral experience to nurturing the whole child.

Our classes help develop creativity, motor skills, and eye-hand coordination. Art helps children express their emotions, understand their feelings, and empathize with others. All students participate in weekly art classes. NCCS hosts an annual Art and World Cultures Day event.

Following a Meet the Masters baseline curriculum, benefits of our art program include:

  • An early foundation for art appreciation, visual analysis, imagination, and creativity
  • Fine motor skill development – scissor work, drawing and using paint brushes support hand-eye coordination and dexterity
  • Multisensory engagement - hands-on discovery and material exploration utilizes all the senses
  • Cognitive development – visual-spatial processing, observation and interpretation skills
  • Creative thinking & imagination – creating and observing art nurtures early critical thinking, flexible thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Social-emotional learning –  increased self-esteem and confidence
  • Cultural perspective – children learn about the world around them; art is one of the shared languages of the world.
  • Self-expression & emotional development: art is an ideal opportunity for free play, expressing themselves in a safe space.
